Mahara will be offering Tuesday night donation based meditation classes. Don't worry you won't be forced to sit a whole hour in lotus pose. We will start with some basic upper body stretching, followed by 1-3 calming breathing exercises to slow down the mind, for easier access during your meditation experience. Each class will offer a new technique. These classes are an excellent opportunity to disconnect from the frenetic activity of daily life and let your speedometer return to 0 mph. A welcome respite amidst the turbulence of life, they provide a space to tune into your inner awareness.

Important: To get the most out of your practice, make sure you eat at least 1.5hours before class (or more if possible). It is not recommended to practice on a full stomach.

Meditation is an immensely powerful tool for cultivating physical and mental health.
As thousands of scientific studies show, meditation produces immediate and long-term benefits for your body and mind.

The physical benefits of meditation include:
- The stimulation of the body's self-repair mechanisms and self-regulation
- Lowered blood pressure
- Decreases inflammation
- Increased levels of the enzyme telomerase, which helps slow the aging process
- Downregulation (turning off) of genes that contribute to diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimers, autoimmune illness, and some types  of cancers
- Upregulation (turning on) of genes that are responsible for good health
- Reversal of aging at the cellular level

The psychological benefits of meditation include:
- Reduced feelings of stress and increased feelings of relaxation and peace
- Expanded experience of healing emotions such as love, compassion, joy, equanimity, and gratitude
- Decreased experience of painfuö emotions that constrict your awareness, including anger, hostility, guilt, fear, shame, and depression
- The ability to respond consciously rather than reacting in a conditioned, melodramatic way
- Better relationships
- Improved sleep
- Decreased addictive behavior

Meditation is the most simple, practical key to living a much longer, healthier life. When you start meditating, it spontaneously creates a positive ripple effect in every area of your life.

“The answers are within.”

The purpose of meditation is to reconnect with who you truly are and to help you live a more meaningful, happy, joyful, and fulfilling life. Meditation opens you up to new levels of self-exploration and contemplation, allowing your inner being to shine forth. It is about mind, body, and spirit as one continuous whole, not three separate things.

The insight and clarity you glean from within is the catalyst for unparalleled personal development and self-evolution. This is how you become the best version of yourself. This is how you create personal transformation and how you effect global change.

Why do I Need a Meditation teacher?

Just like learning to ride a bike, meditation takes time and discipline. When you begin, you may feel distracted in meditation or you may notice a tendency to fidget or become anxious. For some, there may be uncomfortable physical sensations or emotions that arise. These things (and more) are normal. A meditation teacher is there to support you, gently challenge you and guide you, greatly increasing your chances of developing an enjoyable and fruitful practice.

Which kind of Meditation do you teach?

The variety of meditation techniques, traditions and technologies is vast, but the essence of meditation is singular: the cultivation of mindful awareness and expanded consciousness. In Mahara’s meditation classes, you will practice a series of breathing exercises which will help calm the busy mind and prepare for meditation.
